Scholarship Awardees

The Community Resource Opportunity Project (C.R.O.P.) Foundation, has selected 4 outstanding candidates to receive our annual academic scholarships for post-secondary academic study.  The recipients, Mr. Yosef Woods, Mr. Oliver Rice, Ms. Mikeila Whitney and Ms. Ameerah Herron, were awarded $1000.00 and $500.00 scholarships to support their studies for the 2019 academic school year.  The C.R.O.P. Foundation is extremely proud of them and are excited to support them in their academic endeavors.

CRΩP SCHOLAR RECIPIENT 

MR. YOSEF WOODS

Yosef is a graduating senior from Deep Creek High School with a 4.49 GPA completing his requirements for an Advanced Studies Diploma. Yosef wants to pursue his undergraduate degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Yosef is not only excelling academically but as well in his community. He has been a member of both the football and track teams as well as president of the Men of Excellence Leadership program. His involvement as Vice President of the senior class and homecoming king in conjunction with his affiliation with The Golden Fold Mentoring Group sponsored by the Alpha Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. all demonstrate Yosef’s maturity and sense of moral and civic responsibilities.

PERSEVERANCE AWARD RECIPIENT

Ms. Ameerah Herron

Ameerah is a graduating senior from Deep Creek High School with a 3.35 GPA planning to attend Norfolk State University in the fall of 2019. As a driven academic student, Ameerah has been recognized as an honor roll student for the past 3 years. In addition to her academics, Ameerah is involved in her church and is an active guidance department volunteer, where she demonstrates trustworthiness and dependability. Ameerah’s amazing story of perseverance through the death of her mother at the beginning of her senior year is inspirational. Ameerah is looking to major in nursing when she attends Norfolk State in the fall. She is following in her mother’s footsteps because of the impact that she had as a registered nurse. She credits her mothers work ethic for her ability to be limitless and opportunistic.

CRΩP SCHOLAR RECIPIENT

Mr. Oliver Rice

Oliver is a graduating high school senior from Nansemond River High School with a 4.0 GPA pursuing an honors degree. Oliver plans to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he will major in mechanical engineering. Oliver has an interest in becoming an engineer and starting his own business. Oliver is heavily involved in service in his school and community. He is a member of Project Lead The Way (PLTW) which is a magnet program comprising of rigorous math, science and engineering courses. Oliver is also a member of the Anchor Club where he spends many hours each month doing community service after school. Oliver has been involved in many clubs such as FBLA, Beta and Junior National Society for Black Engineers. He is also a part of the nursing home ministry with Enoch Baptist Church where he assists with audio setup and worship with the residents.

CRΩP SCHOLAR RECIPIENT

Ms. Mikeila Whitney

Mikeila is a graduating senior from Indian River High School with a 4.7 GPA planning to attend The College of William & Mary in the fall of 2019. While in high school, Mikeila has being very active in the Key Club, Politics Club, National Honor Society and National English Honor Society to name a few. She also received awards in Cross-Country and participated on the swim team her 10th grade year. Mikeila is fascinated by politics and government and wishes to major in some form of the legal field. Mikeila has aspirations of getting her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and becoming a lawyer. 

With the success of our fundraising efforts, the C.R.O.P. Foundation will expand our efforts in 2021/2022 to support additional worthy students to pursue their post-secondary education and offer scholarships to students throughout Hampton Roads, VA.
